EHV-1 In Ocala February, 2013

Okay, so a horse came up positive with EHV-1.  This is not anything to be taken lightly but some of the rumors that started spreading like wild fire were just plain silly.  I don't know how many calls I fielded from people asking about horse transportation and the restrictions put in place by the state.  As of this posting I can assure you both the Horse Show and the State of Florida are monitoring the situation closely and there are no restrictions put in place by the state.  People have to stop listening to gossip.  The State of Florida has a web-site you can go to and read their updates for the facts.

Gypsy Horse Haulers

These days I am seeing a number of people who have horse trailers hauling horses for hire.  I guess the way the economy is, anything to make a buck.  You see them hauling for cheap!  Take the majority of haulers who use those wholesale type listing sights.  If you go to any of those sights, say like Uship, I doubt you will find one regulated commercial transportation company competing for jobs.  They can't compete with the gypsies who are hauling for next to nothing.  I don't care who they are, if they are hauling for hire, they need to have a USDOT number, and you should be signing a bill of lading stating carrier terms.  I have seen these unlicensed people cut rates by hundreds of dollars.  If you hire them, they are working for you, your liability...
